A mural to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Ascender, a community for Pittsburgh founders
As a crown gem in Pittsburgh’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, Ascender is pushing the boundaries to foster a truly inclusive community space for makers, creators, and builders to achieve their visions for the world. Inspired by the themes of “Build. Belong. Collaborate. Thrive,” my mural marries the aspirational trek that entrepreneurs embark upon with the fluidity and creativity that comes with creating something entirely new in the world.
The piece includes bright pop illustrations of Warhol-esque flowers and geode shapes, paying homage to Pittsburgh while symbolizing the vibrancy of entrepreneurial minds who call Ascender home: just like unicorns, entrepreneurs come in all shapes and forms, with the potential to bloom into something truly great. The visual elements are layered upon each other with care, mirroring the collaborative conversations and innovative problem-solving that comes with leaning upon each other.
Finally, the color choices of the artwork center upon Ascender’s distinctive company branding, along with accent colors drawn directly from the space’s existing interior: russet orange, amber yellow, lush green, white, and pale blue. Blending vibrant swatches of color and fluid details, the piece combines whimsy and community joy to celebrate the delight and resilience of embodying Ascender’s entrepreneurial spirit.
